Can I order less than the MOQ?

Is MOQ per model or per order?

The five costs that create the minimum

1 · Line setup and changeover

Clearing the previous job, loading programmes, calibrating fixtures and running first-article checks. Whether the run is 200 or 5,000 units, this cost is essentially the same.

2 · Component purchase minimums

Heating film, PCBs, battery cells and fabric all come with their own supplier minimums and lead times. Ordering below them means paying a premium or holding dead stock.

3 · Tooling amortisation

New moulds, jigs and test fixtures are spread across the run. Shorter runs mean each unit carries more tooling cost — this is why private-mould projects need higher volumes.

4 · Test and certification samples

Units pulled for safety testing, cycle testing and certification are consumed, not sold. On a small run that allocation is proportionally expensive.

5 · Packing and documentation labour

Manuals, labels, barcodes and market-specific inserts are per-model work, largely independent of quantity on small runs.

How to plan a first order

Start on an existing platform

Use an ODM model for the first run. You learn the real market response without carrying tooling risk, then move to a private mould on run two or three.

Test with samples before committing

Sampling takes about a week. Run the samples the way your customers will — full battery cycles, repeated heating cycles, and a drop test on the packaging.

Keep the first assortment narrow

One model, one or two colours, standard packaging. Depth beats breadth on a first order; breadth comes once the hero SKU is proven.

Plan the second order before the first ships

Component lead times, not factory capacity, are usually what delay a re-order. Agree the re-order window while the first run is still in production.
