Both warm the body, but they are bought for different reasons, sold at different margins, and cleared through different compliance paths. Here is how we advise buyers choosing a first — or second — product line.
| Conductive heating pad / wrap | Near-infrared (NIR) device | |
|---|---|---|
| Mechanism | Heat conducted from a resistive or graphene film in contact with skin | Light (~700–1400 nm) absorbed by tissue and converted to heat deeper down |
| Typical form factors | Knee wraps, waist and abdominal belts, heated scarves, eye compresses | Panels, targeted modules, therapy cabins |
| Price positioning | Entry to mid — volume driver | Mid to premium — margin driver |
| Consumer learning curve | None — everyone knows a hot compress | Needs explanation in packaging and content |
| Certification focus | Electrical and heating safety; battery transport | Adds optical safety and stricter claims review |
| Best channels | Pharmacy, mass retail, e-commerce, corporate gifting | Specialty wellness, clinics-adjacent retail, DTC premium, beauty devices |
This comparison is for sourcing planning, not medical advice. Therapeutic claims require review against local regulation before launch.
Start with heat. Knee wraps, back belts and abdominal heat pads answer everyday stiffness and cold-weather complaints. Low price, low explanation cost, repeat purchase.
Heat first, NIR second. A heated wrap is the entry product; an NIR module becomes the upsell for customers already convinced by heat therapy.
NIR fits better. Buyers in this channel expect a technology story and accept a higher price — provided the claims stay inside local rules.
Heated wearables only. Scarves and hand warmers are easy to brand, easy to ship, and safe to give at scale.
Graphene far-infrared heating film, airbag air-pressure massage, vibration and NIR modules are developed by the same engineering team, so a good / better / best range can share enclosures, controllers and packaging.
Battery packs, USB-C charging and PCB platforms are common across both lines, which shortens certification time on the second product.
Both lines start from 500 pcs per model, so a two-product launch is a realistic first order rather than a stretch.
